Usui Kyou

Usui Kyou is the love interest of heroine Harada Misao. Misao is a high school student who can see spirits and demons; when she turns sixteen, she learns that she has other special characteristics - if a demon eats her flesh, it will gain eternal youth, but if a demon marries her instead, his clan will prosper. Thus, she has been targeted by all demons, many of whom wish to eat her and others who wish to marry her.

Kyou knew Misao when they were children, and though her memories of him are vague, Misao considers him her first love. Kyou had to leave ten years ago but promised Misao that he would come back for her and make her his bride. Kyou lives up to his promise, saving her from a demon, but Misao is less than thrilled when she learns that Kyou is the head of the crow demon clan. Since Kyou is also actually a demon, she questions his true reasons for wanting to marry her. Undeterred, Kyou becomes a teacher at Misao's high school and continues to pursue Misao. He vows to protect her life at all costs and to make her his wife.
